MaxZip is a free multi-platform ZIP tool that is written in 100% Java. You can use it to create and extract ZIP files on Windows, Linux and Mac. I wrote this tool because I wanted a ZIP tool that acted the same on all platforms, particularly when it comes to directory structure preservation and was robust enough to handle large files.
The newest version requires a 1.5 runtime and features improvements like support for WARs, more directory structure options for compression and a fully operational console mode.
This tool requires a Java Runtime Environment of 1.5 or later or equivalent to run.
The use of this program is covered under the license found here. In short this tool is free to download and use but you may not re-distribute it.
