About Pacific Wildcat

Pacific Wildcat is a scrolling shoot-em-up style game. Based loosely on the Pacific theatre of WWII you pilot an F-4 cat over the ocean taking on the Imperial Japanese Naval Air Service.

Game Basics

The game is made of 12 levels which are played straight through. Each level has a number of fighter craft that will try and bring you down and an "Ace Fighter" at the end of the level who you must defeat in order to advance to the next level. As the game goes on the difficulty of each level increases, you will have to dogfight with more and better opponents as the game progresses. If your plane should be shot down in any level you will restart with one of your reserve planes at the beginning of that level.

As your opponents attack you your plane will be damaged and the amount of "health" your plane has will decrease. This can be seen in the green bar indicator below the main playing screen. When your plane has no more health then you are shot down. You have two reserve planes for each game. You can also restore some of your health by flying into one of the health tokens (see below).

Your planes come with 180 rounds of ammunition. The amount of ammunition you currently have can be seen in the red bar indicator below the main playing screen. Except for times when you have the special weapon and shielding (see below) every time you fire your gun your ammunition stocks will be lowered. If you run low or out of ammunition you can resupply yourself by flying into one of the ammunition tokens (see below). Take careful note though, if you are facing a level ending ace fighter and run out of ammunition your plane will automatically be destroyed.

The game ends when you run out of planes or defeat the Ace Fighter at the end of level 12.

Bonus Tokens

Flying your plane into the tokens below give you more ammunition, health and a special weapon/shield combination.

TypeAppearanceAttributes
Ammunition Ammunition Ammunition tokens give you 80 rounds (red bar) of standard ammunition. Use these tokens to reload your ammunition stores throughout the game.
Health Health Health tokens help to restore your health (green bar).
Weapon & Shielding Weapon & Shielding Weapon and Shielding tokens give your plane two advantages. One is shielding that protects your plane entirely from all enemy fire. Two is that you will get two faster firing guns (at your wingtips) as opposed to your usual one. The special guns will last as long as your shielding and all rounds fired during this time are not taken out of your standard ammunition store. The weapon and shielding bonuses are time limited and you will see the yellow bar indicator reduce accordingly.

Enemies

Here is brief description, view and point value of the enemies you will encounter in the game.

TypeAppearanceAttributesPoint Value
Scout Scout Small and fast, enemy scout craft make up the bulk of enemy forces. Their speed comes from lack of armour though and a couple of hits will knock these planes out of the sky. 250
Armoured Scout Armoured Scout Armoured scouts are the same speed as normal scouts but have extra armour. 500
Single Gunned Fighter Single Gunned Fighter Slower than scout craft, fighters are more tenacious in attack. Fighters are also heavier in armour than scout planes and it takes a number of hits to disable these craft. 1000
Anti Aircraft Turret Anti Aircraft Turret Anti aircraft turrets attack you from fixed point ground positions. Turrets are immobile but their well secured emplacements make them difficult to disable. 1500
Dual Gunned Fighter Dual Gunned Fighter Similar to single gunned fighters except that these fighters fire two guns at you instead of just one and have a little extra armour. 2000
Junior Ace Fighter Junior Ace Fighter Junior ace fighters are tough to bring down but they'll dog fight you as long as they are in the sky so you'll need to knock them out. 5000
Ace Fighter Ace Fighter You'll have to face an ace fighter at the end of each level in order to advance. These heavily armoured and fast aircraft are all equipped with anywhere between one and three guns. 10,000 and up
